This area has several groomed loops totaling about 40 miles, and many ungroomed trails as well. Note that the first few miles of trail are considered HIGH TRAFFIC MULTI-USE, and you may see dogsledders, fatbikers, and occasionally skiiers and hikers. PLEASE be courteous to other winter users! There are lot of off trail meadows and play areas for playing along the entire route. Check the avalanche forecast before heading out, as the Windy Gap to Gold Run area can be avalanche prone. https://avalanche.state.co.us/
Turn north at the stoplight in Mancos and go approximately 3 blocks to County Road 42. Take Road 42 5.5 miles to the parking area at the forest boundary or a few miles beyond, depending on snow levels and gate closures.
